The slimmer Xbox 360 redesign released in 2010 was officially called the Xbox 360 S.
Microsoft unveiled the revised model at the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo. It replaced the original Xbox 360 design with a smaller black enclosure, integrated Wi-Fi, a redesigned cooling system, and a dedicated internal hard-drive bay. The new hardware also addressed several design issues associated with early Xbox 360 units.
Many players call the console the Xbox 360 Slim because of its reduced size, but Microsoft used the designation Xbox 360 S. The later Xbox 360 E, introduced in 2013, had a different exterior design and was the final major revision of the Xbox 360 family.
The S model retained compatibility with the Xbox 360 software library and accessories, although some older accessories required adapters or were not physically interchangeable. It was a hardware redesign rather than a new console generation.
