What was the name of the slim redesign of the PlayStation 3?

The story behind the answer

The slim redesign of the PlayStation 3 was called the PlayStation 3 Slim.

Sony released the PlayStation 3 Slim in 2009, replacing the larger launch-era models with a smaller, lighter, and more power-efficient design. The redesign used a different exterior, matte finish, and a redesigned internal layout. It also helped reduce manufacturing costs as the PlayStation 3 matured.

The PlayStation 3 Slim is often confused with the later Super Slim model. The Super Slim arrived in 2012 and used a sliding disc cover, whereas the Slim was the earlier major redesign. Both were official PlayStation 3 hardware revisions.

The Slim retained the core PlayStation 3 software ecosystem and Blu-ray game format. Depending on the market and production period, it was sold with different hard-drive capacities, so storage size alone does not identify every Slim unit.
