EyeToy was the name of the PlayStation 2’s camera-based motion accessory.
Sony’s EyeToy was a USB camera designed to capture players’ movements and use them as input in compatible games. It launched in Japan in 2003 and later appeared in other markets with software that encouraged players to stand, move, and interact directly with the screen.
Games such as EyeToy: Play made the accessory especially recognizable. Rather than relying on buttons alone, these titles tracked broad body movements through the camera, creating an early form of motion-controlled console play.
EyeToy is often mixed up with PlayStation Eye, the later camera accessory made for the PlayStation 3. It is also separate from PlayStation Move, which used handheld motion controllers and a camera-based tracking system. The original EyeToy belongs specifically to the PlayStation 2 generation and used the exact stylized name “EyeToy.”
