What was the name of the mountain region where Genesis says Noah’s Ark came to rest?

Genesis says Noah’s Ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

Genesis 8:4 uses a plural regional expression rather than naming one clearly identified peak. The wording is commonly translated as “the mountains of Ararat,” connecting the story with the ancient land known as Urartu or Ararat in the surrounding Near Eastern world.

This is why the biblical wording should not automatically be reduced to Mount Ararat, the modern volcanic peak in eastern Turkey. Mount Ararat became a famous traditional candidate, but Genesis itself does not specify that individual mountain. Archaeological claims about finding the Ark have not produced universally accepted evidence confirming the biblical vessel.
