What was the name of the group Beyoncé joined as a child before Destiny’s Child?

The story behind the answer

Before Destiny’s Child, Beyoncé performed in a group called Girl’s Tyme.

Girl’s Tyme was formed in Houston in 1990, when Beyoncé and several other young performers were children. The group included Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and Támar Davis at different points in its early history.

The group competed on the television talent show Star Search in 1993. Although Girl’s Tyme did not win, the experience exposed the young performers to national television and helped shape their professional ambitions.

The act later underwent several lineup and name changes. It eventually became Destiny’s Child, which signed to Columbia Records and developed into one of the best-selling female groups in music history. “Girl’s Tyme” is often misspelled as “Girls Time,” but the documented styling used an apostrophe.
