What was the name of the group Beyoncé co-founded before Destiny’s Child?
Answer
Girl’s Tyme
Answer
Girl’s Tyme
Before Destiny’s Child, Beyoncé co-founded a Houston girl group called Girl’s Tyme.
The group formed in 1990 and included Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and several other young singers at different points. They competed on the television talent program Star Search in 1993, although they did not win.
After changes in membership and management, the group became Destiny’s Child. That name was used when the act signed with Columbia Records and began its commercial recording career in the late 1990s. Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland remained through the group’s major success.
The name is sometimes written as “Girl’s Tyme” and sometimes rendered with slightly different punctuation in retrospective sources. It should not be confused with Destiny’s Child, which was the later name associated with hits such as “Say My Name” and “Survivor.”
