Crew-2 was the first SpaceX mission to use a previously flown Falcon 9 first stage for a crewed launch.
The mission launched on 23 April 2021 from Kennedy Space Center and carried NASA astronauts Shane Kimbrough and Megan McArthur, along with Thomas Pesquet of the European Space Agency and Akihiko Hoshide of Japan. Its Falcon 9 first stage had already flown on the Crew-1 mission.
Reusing that booster marked an important step in operational rocket reusability. SpaceX had already reflown Falcon 9 stages for uncrewed missions, but Crew-2 demonstrated that a previously flown stage could meet the strict requirements of a human launch.
Crew-2 used the Crew Dragon spacecraft Endeavour, which had previously flown Demo-2. The mission later docked with the ISS and returned its crew to Earth in November 2021, completing a long-duration station expedition.
