Which company developed the Peregrine lunar lander?

The story behind the answer

Astrobotic Technology developed the Peregrine lunar lander. The Pittsburgh-based company designed it to deliver commercial and government payloads to the Moon’s surface.

Peregrine launched on 8 January 2024 aboard United Launch Alliance’s Vulcan Centaur rocket during its first flight. A propulsion-system problem soon after launch caused a propellant leak, making a lunar landing impossible.

The spacecraft continued operating in space for several days while Astrobotic collected data and attempted to control its trajectory. Peregrine eventually re-entered Earth’s atmosphere over the South Pacific on 18 January 2024.

Peregrine is distinct from Odysseus, the Intuitive Machines lander that achieved the first commercial soft landing on the Moon in February 2024. Firefly Aerospace’s lunar lander is called Blue Ghost, while Japan’s ispace developed Hakuto-R.
