Which company founded the commercial space-station venture Axiom Station?
Answer
Axiom Space
Answer
Axiom Space
Axiom Space founded the commercial space-station venture Axiom Station. The company was established in 2016 by Michael Suffredini and Kam Ghaffarian, both of whom had experience in human spaceflight and space systems.
Axiom Space initially planned to attach privately operated modules to the International Space Station. Those modules were intended to form the early phase of Axiom Station before separating and becoming an independent commercial station.
The company also organizes private astronaut missions to the ISS. Axiom Mission 1 launched in April 2022 and was the first fully private crewed mission to the station. These missions help develop operational experience for future commercial habitats.
Axiom Station is not the same project as the International Space Station or Bigelow Aerospace’s inflatable habitat concepts. NASA selected Axiom to provide the first commercial module intended for attachment to the ISS.
