SpaceX's Dragon C2+ was the first commercial spacecraft to dock with the International Space Station in 2012.
The mission, officially called SpaceX COTS Demo Flight 2, launched on 22 May 2012 aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral. After demonstrating key navigation and rendezvous procedures, Dragon was captured by the station's robotic Canadarm2 and berthed to the Harmony module on 25 May.
Dragon delivered supplies and equipment under NASA's Commercial Orbital Transportation Services program. It returned cargo to Earth on 31 May 2012, splashing down in the Pacific Ocean. This recovery was significant because Dragon could bring cargo back, unlike many earlier uncrewed resupply vehicles.
Dragon C2+ is sometimes confused with Dragon C1, which launched in 2010 and became the first commercial spacecraft to reach orbit and recover successfully. The later C2+ mission achieved the additional milestone of visiting and docking with the ISS.
