What was the name of the FIFA World Cup trophy before 1970?

The story behind the answer

Before 1970, the FIFA World Cup trophy was called the Jules Rimet Trophy.

The trophy was named after Jules Rimet, the French football administrator who served as FIFA president from 1921 to 1954 and helped establish the World Cup. The first tournament was held in Uruguay in 1930, and Uruguay became the first team to lift the trophy after defeating Argentina in the final.

The original trophy was designed by French sculptor Abel Lafleur. It depicted a winged figure representing victory holding a golden cup, and it was initially known simply as “Victory.” FIFA renamed it the Jules Rimet Trophy in 1946 to honour Rimet’s contribution to international football.

Brazil won the World Cup for the third time in 1970 and, under the rules then in force, received the trophy permanently. The cup was stolen in Brazil in 1983 and was never recovered; it is widely believed to have been melted down. FIFA introduced the modern FIFA World Cup Trophy in 1974.
