What was the name of the ark’s mountain landing region in Genesis?

The story behind the answer

Genesis says Noah’s ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

Genesis 8:4 uses the plural phrase “mountains of Ararat,” not the name of one precisely identified summit. Ararat was an ancient geographic region associated with the kingdom of Urartu in eastern Anatolia and nearby areas.

Mount Ararat in modern eastern Turkey became the best-known candidate in later tradition, but Genesis does not say that the ark landed on that specific peak. The distinction matters because the biblical wording identifies a region or mountain range rather than a confirmed archaeological site.

Numerous expeditions and claimed discoveries have failed to produce evidence accepted by mainstream archaeology for the ark’s survival.
