What was the name of Tesla’s first dedicated factory in Europe?
Answer
Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg
Answer
Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg
Tesla’s first dedicated factory in Europe was Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg.
Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, also called Gigafactory 4 during planning, is located near Grünheide in the German state of Brandenburg. Tesla began construction in 2020, and the factory opened in March 2022. It became Tesla’s first European production site for vehicles and battery-related manufacturing.
The plant initially produced the Model Y for European customers. Its location near Berlin gave Tesla a manufacturing base inside the European Union and reduced the need to import finished vehicles from factories in China or the United States.
The name can cause confusion because Tesla uses several “Gigafactory” labels. Gigafactory Nevada was the company’s first large battery factory, Gigafactory Shanghai was its first factory in China, and Gigafactory Texas is in the United States. Berlin-Brandenburg specifically identifies Tesla’s German and European vehicle-production site.
