SpaceX’s first crewed orbital mission was Crew Dragon Demo-2, launched for NASA in May 2020.
The mission lifted off on 30 May 2020 from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center. NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley flew aboard the Crew Dragon spacecraft Endeavour and spent about two months aboard the International Space Station.
Demo-2 was the final crewed test flight in NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. It demonstrated launch, orbital operations, docking, station work and a splashdown recovery before regular crew rotations began. The spacecraft returned to Earth on 2 August 2020 in the Gulf of Mexico.
Demo-2 is often confused with Crew-1, which was the first operational crew rotation mission under the same program. It is also distinct from Demo-1, an uncrewed test flight of Crew Dragon conducted in 2019.
