What was the name of Noah’s wife in the Genesis Flood account?

The story behind the answer

Noah’s wife is not named in the Genesis Flood account.

Genesis refers to her simply as Noah’s wife. Genesis 7:7 and 7:13 include her among the people entering the Ark, but the text does not provide a personal name. The same pattern applies to the wives of Noah’s sons, who are also mentioned without names in Genesis.

Later Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions supplied names for Noah’s wife or connected her with figures from other stories. One well-known later tradition calls her Naamah, based on a woman named Naamah in Genesis 4:22, but Genesis does not identify that Naamah as Noah’s wife. Other traditions use different names.

“Not named” is therefore the textually precise answer when the question is specifically about Genesis. A common error is to treat a later traditional name as though it appeared in the biblical Flood narrative. The canonical passage itself gives only her family relationship to Noah.
