What was the name of Noah’s grandfather in the Genesis genealogy?
Answer
Methuselah
Answer
Methuselah
Methuselah was Noah’s grandfather in the Genesis genealogy.
Genesis 5 presents the line from Adam to Noah. It identifies Enoch as Methuselah’s father and Methuselah as Lamech’s father; Lamech is Noah’s father. That makes Methuselah Noah’s grandfather. Genesis 5:25 says Methuselah became the father of Lamech at age 187.
Methuselah is famous for the age assigned to him in the same chapter: 969 years, the longest lifespan recorded in the Bible. He is therefore often remembered as a symbol of extreme longevity, though the genealogical numbers have been interpreted differently across ancient textual traditions.
The relationship is easy to confuse because Enoch, Methuselah, and Lamech all appear close together in the genealogy. Enoch is Noah’s great-grandfather, Lamech is his father, and Methuselah lies between them. The genealogy also distinguishes this Lamech from the earlier Lamech in Cain’s line.
