Lamech was Noah's father in the genealogy leading to the Flood.
Genesis 5 traces Noah's ancestry through the line of Seth. It names Noah as the son of Lamech and gives Lamech's age at Noah's birth as 182 years in many English translations. Lamech then lived 595 more years and had other sons and daughters.
The biblical Lamech who fathered Noah is distinct from another Lamech in Genesis 4, a descendant of Cain. The two men share a name but belong to separate genealogical lines and appear in different pre-Flood family lists.
Genesis also records Lamech's explanation of Noah's name: he hoped Noah would bring relief from the painful work caused by the ground's curse. This wordplay connects the son's name with rest or comfort and helps introduce Noah's role before the Flood narrative begins.
