What was the name of Meta’s first consumer smart glasses, made with Ray-Ban?
Answer
Ray-Ban Stories
Answer
Ray-Ban Stories
Meta’s first consumer smart glasses made with Ray-Ban were called Ray-Ban Stories.
Meta and EssilorLuxottica launched Ray-Ban Stories in September 2021. The glasses resembled familiar Ray-Ban frames but included miniature cameras, open-ear speakers, microphones, and electronics for capturing photos and short videos or listening to audio.
The glasses connected to a smartphone through Meta’s companion software. A small front-facing LED was intended to signal when the camera was recording, addressing concerns about people being filmed without their knowledge. The product was designed as a lighter, more everyday alternative to a headset rather than a full augmented-reality display.
Ray-Ban Stories did not project computer graphics into the wearer’s field of view. That distinction separates them from augmented-reality glasses and from virtual-reality headsets such as Meta Quest. Meta and EssilorLuxottica later introduced a second-generation line called Ray-Ban Meta, with upgraded cameras and audio features.
