Arch Deluxe was the name of McDonald’s short-lived premium burger line launched in 1996.
McDonald’s positioned the Arch Deluxe as a more sophisticated hamburger aimed at adults rather than children. Its branding emphasized a special mustard-mayonnaise sauce, a potato-flavored bun, lettuce, tomato, onions, and a quarter-pound beef patty. The product received a major advertising campaign built around the phrase “burger with the grown-up taste.”
Despite the scale of the launch, the Arch Deluxe did not achieve the sales McDonald’s expected and was gradually withdrawn from many markets. Its failure became a frequently cited example of the difficulty of changing a strongly established family-oriented fast-food identity.
The Arch Deluxe is sometimes confused with the Big N’ Tasty, another McDonald’s burger introduced later. The two products belonged to separate menu campaigns and had different positioning.
