What was the name of Kenner’s 1978 Sears-exclusive Star Wars playset featuring the Mos Eisley cantina?

The story behind the answer

Kenner’s 1978 Sears-exclusive cantina playset was called the Cantina Adventure Set.

The set was created to expand Kenner’s growing Star Wars toy range beyond individual figures and vehicles. The Mos Eisley cantina was an especially useful setting for a playset because the film introduced several memorable aliens there, including Greedo and the bartender Wuher.

The Cantina Adventure Set was sold through Sears rather than as a standard general-retail release. Sears played an important role in early Star Wars merchandising, offering exclusive packages and special combinations that are now significant to collectors.

The name is sometimes shortened informally to “the cantina set,” but Cantina Adventure Set is the recognized product name. It should not be confused with later Kenner playsets based on the Death Star, Hoth, or Jabba’s palace.
