MagicBand was Disney’s first major theme-park wearable combining room access, admission, and payment functions.
Disney introduced MagicBand at Walt Disney World as part of the MyMagic+ system. The wrist-worn device used radio-frequency technology to connect a guest with reservations and selected park services. Depending on the guest’s arrangements, it could act as a hotel-room key, park-entry credential, and payment device.
MagicBand is sometimes confused with Disney’s Magic Kingdom “Magic Key” terminology or with ordinary admission cards. Those are different products and programs. The defining feature of MagicBand was its wearable format and its ability to combine several guest functions in one item.
The bands were also sold in many character designs and limited editions, making them both technology products and Disney merchandise. Later versions expanded the concept with rechargeable electronics and additional digital features.
