What was the name of Dior’s first perfume, launched in 1947?
Answer
Miss Dior
Answer
Miss Dior
Miss Dior was Dior’s first perfume, launched in 1947.
Christian Dior introduced the fragrance alongside his first couture collection, the same presentation later associated with the New Look. The perfume was created by perfumer Jean Carles, and Dior named it in honor of his sister Catherine Dior, whom he affectionately called Miss Dior.
The original fragrance was a complex chypre-style scent, built around citrus, floral, and earthy notes. Its launch helped establish fragrance as an important part of the Dior fashion house rather than a separate business from couture. Dior’s first boutique at 30 Avenue Montaigne in Paris also sold perfume.
Miss Dior has been reformulated and reinterpreted many times, so modern versions do not exactly reproduce the original composition. It is also sometimes confused with J’adore, another famous Dior fragrance introduced much later, in 1999. Miss Dior is the historic first perfume associated with the house.
