Decipher’s first Star Wars Customizable Card Game set, released in 1995, was called Premiere.
Premiere introduced the card game’s basic system, allowing players to construct personalized decks around characters, starships, locations, weapons, and other elements from the original Star Wars trilogy. Players then used those decks in head-to-head games built around opposing strategies.
The set is particularly important because it established the card pool and terminology for Decipher’s long-running Star Wars game. It was followed by expansions and standalone releases that drew from films including The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
A common mix-up is calling the first set A New Hope, because many Premiere cards depict events and characters from that film. A New Hope was instead a later Decipher release, while Premiere was the game’s initial foundational set.
