What was the name of Beyoncé's character in the 2001 film Carmen: A Hip Hopera?

The story behind the answer

Beyoncé played Carmen Brown in the 2001 television film Carmen: A Hip Hopera.

The film is a contemporary hip-hop adaptation of Georges Bizet's opera Carmen. It was directed by Robert Townsend and broadcast on MTV. Beyoncé stars as Carmen Brown, a young woman whose relationships and choices drive the modernized story. Mekhi Phifer plays Hill, the counterpart to the opera's Don José.

Carmen: A Hip Hopera was one of Beyoncé's earliest prominent acting roles and arrived while she was becoming known internationally as a member of Destiny's Child. The production helped establish her screen career before later films such as Austin Powers in Goldmember and Dreamgirls.

The character name is easy to mix up with Beyoncé's other film roles. She played Deena Jones in Dreamgirls and Foxxy Cleopatra in Austin Powers in Goldmember; neither name belongs to the Carmen adaptation.
