What was the name of Beyoncé’s character in Dreamgirls?
Answer
Deena Jones
Answer
Deena Jones
Beyoncé played Deena Jones in the 2006 film Dreamgirls.
Dreamgirls is a musical drama loosely inspired by the history of the Supremes and other Motown-era acts. Beyoncé's Deena is a member of the Dreams, a female singing trio whose career changes after manager Curtis Taylor Jr. reshapes the group.
The film also stars Jennifer Hudson as Effie White, Eddie Murphy as James “Thunder” Early, and Jamie Foxx as Curtis Taylor Jr. Hudson won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance.
Deena Jones is not the same character as Foxxy Cleopatra, Beyoncé's role in Austin Powers in Goldmember. Dreamgirls also gave Beyoncé a prominent acting and singing role in a period musical rather than a contemporary romantic drama.
