Beyoncé was the name of Beyoncé’s surprise self-titled visual album released in 2013.
The album arrived without a traditional pre-release marketing campaign on December 13, 2013. It was released digitally through the iTunes Store and contained 14 songs accompanied by 17 music videos. Beyoncé described the project as an “album” and a visual experience designed to be consumed as a complete body of work.
The release included “Drunk in Love,” “Partition,” and “Flawless,” and it featured appearances by Jay-Z, Drake, Frank Ocean, and others. Its unexpected arrival changed the way major artists could launch albums in the digital era.
The title is often confused with the title of Beyoncé’s 2016 visual album, Lemonade. Both were released with films or videos, but the self-titled project came first and is conventionally referred to as Beyoncé.
