What was the name of Apollo 15's lunar module?
Answer
Falcon
Answer
Falcon
Apollo 15's lunar module was named Falcon.
Falcon carried David Scott and James Irwin from lunar orbit to the surface near Hadley Rille in July 1971. It remained on the Moon after the astronauts launched its ascent stage to rejoin Alfred Worden in the command module Endeavour.
Apollo spacecraft used separate names for the command-and-service module and lunar module. This distinction is a common source of mix-ups: Endeavour was Apollo 15's command module, while Falcon was its lunar module. Earlier missions also gave their two spacecraft different names, such as Eagle and Columbia on Apollo 11.
Apollo 15 was designed as a more scientifically ambitious “J mission.” Its crew conducted three Moon walks, used the first lunar rover and deployed a substantial package of experiments. The landing took place on 30 July 1971, and the crew returned to Earth on 7 August.
