What was Apollo 15’s lunar module called when it landed near Hadley Rille?

The story behind the answer

Apollo 15’s lunar module was called Falcon.

Falcon landed near Hadley Rille in the Moon’s Hadley–Apennine region on July 30, 1971. Commander David Scott and lunar module pilot James Irwin used it as their base while command module pilot Alfred Worden orbited overhead in Endeavour.

Apollo 15 was the first of the extended J-missions, which increased surface time, scientific equipment, and mobility. Scott and Irwin drove the first lunar roving vehicle, allowing them to travel far beyond the immediate landing area and investigate the rille and nearby mountains. They also deployed a substantial suite of experiments and collected samples.

The name Falcon is sometimes confused with Antares, Apollo 14’s lunar module, or Challenger, Apollo 17’s vehicle. Falcon itself was named after the bird of prey, following the naming tradition used for several Apollo lunar modules. It lifted off from the Moon on August 2, 1971.
