On what date did Apollo 12 land near the Moon’s Surveyor 3 spacecraft?

The story behind the answer

Apollo 12 landed near the Moon’s Surveyor 3 spacecraft on November 19, 1969.

Commander Charles Conrad and lunar module pilot Alan Bean landed the lunar module Intrepid in the Ocean of Storms. Their landing site was close to Surveyor 3, an uncrewed spacecraft that had reached the Moon in April 1967. The astronauts inspected the probe and removed parts, including its television camera, for examination on Earth.

Apollo 12 demonstrated much more precise landing capability than Apollo 11. Conrad and Bean were able to reach a scientifically selected site rather than simply aiming for a broad region. The mission also deployed an Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package and collected samples of lunar rocks and soil.

The date is sometimes confused with November 14, when Apollo 12 launched, or November 20, when the lunar module lifted off the Moon. The landing itself occurred five days after launch.
