What was the name of Apollo 10’s command module?
Answer
Charlie Brown
Answer
Charlie Brown
Apollo 10’s command module was named Charlie Brown.
Apollo 10 launched in May 1969 as a full dress rehearsal for the first lunar landing. Thomas Stafford and Eugene Cernan descended in the lunar module Snoopy to about 15.6 kilometers above the lunar surface, while John Young remained in lunar orbit aboard Charlie Brown.
The names came from the Peanuts comic strip, whose creator Charles M. Schulz agreed to the association. NASA selected the names after public criticism of the earlier Apollo 9 names, Gumdrop and Spider, which were considered less suitable for a lunar mission.
Apollo 10 successfully tested separation, rendezvous, navigation, and the powered descent sequence. Its command module returned the crew safely to Earth on May 26, 1969, clearing the way for Apollo 11.
