A. A. Milne’s country home, where he wrote the Winnie-the-Pooh books, was Cotchford Farm.
Milne bought the farmhouse in 1925, near Hartfield in East Sussex, England. Its location close to Ashdown Forest gave him and his family easy access to the landscapes that inspired the stories.
The house was not itself the fictional Hundred Acre Wood. Instead, Milne drew on nearby places, paths and woodland, while E. H. Shepard transformed those real-world impressions into illustrations and maps.
Cotchford Farm is also associated with later history unrelated to Pooh: Rolling Stones musician Brian Jones owned the property after Milne and died there in 1969. The house is a Grade II listed building.
