What was the length of Noah’s Ark in the Genesis measurements?

The story behind the answer

Genesis gives Noah’s Ark a length of 300 cubits.

Genesis 6:15 specifies the Ark’s dimensions as 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. The length is therefore the largest of the three stated measurements and is traditionally the figure most associated with the vessel’s scale.

A cubit was an ancient unit based broadly on the length of a forearm, but its exact historical value varied. Because Genesis does not define the cubit in modern units, converting 300 cubits into metres or feet requires an assumption. Estimates commonly place the length somewhere around 135 metres, but the precise modern equivalent is uncertain.

The dimensions produce a long rectangular vessel rather than a conventional pointed ship. Modern studies and replicas often discuss its proportions and stability, while the biblical narrative itself focuses on construction, survival, and the Flood rather than nautical performance.
