What was the length of Noah’s Ark in the Book of Genesis?

The story behind the answer

The Book of Genesis gives Noah’s Ark a length of 300 cubits.

Genesis 6:15 lists the vessel’s dimensions as 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. Because the ancient cubit was a unit based broadly on the length of an adult forearm, its exact modern equivalent is debated.

Using commonly proposed cubit lengths, 300 cubits would be roughly 135 metres, or about 450 feet. That conversion is approximate, so the biblical figure is more securely stated in cubits than in modern units.

The dimensions describe a very long, box-like vessel rather than a conventional ship designed for speed. Genesis also says it had rooms, a door in its side, and three decks.
