What was the height of Noah’s Ark in the Genesis dimensions?

The story behind the answer

The Genesis dimensions give Noah’s Ark a height of 30 cubits.

Genesis 6:15 lists three measurements for the ark: 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. The height is therefore one-tenth of the length. Since the ancient cubit was not a single universally fixed unit, 30 cubits is often estimated at approximately 13.5 metres, or 45 feet, using a 45-centimetre cubit.

The same passage says the ark had three decks, a door in its side, and a window or opening near the top. These construction details help explain why the height is presented alongside the other dimensions rather than as a symbolic number alone.

Modern illustrations vary greatly because artists choose different cubit conversions and interpretations of the window and decks. The biblical text, however, gives the height in cubits, not metres or feet. That makes 30 cubits the precise textual answer.
