What was the first single released from Beyoncé’s 2022 album Renaissance?

“Break My Soul” was the first single released from Beyoncé’s 2022 album Renaissance.

Columbia Records released the song on June 20, 2022. It served as the lead single for Renaissance, the first act of Beyoncé’s planned three-part project. The track blends dance-pop, house, and R&B elements, reflecting the album’s emphasis on club music and Black and queer dance-music traditions.

“Break My Soul” incorporates elements of “Show Me Love” by Robin S and “Explode” by Big Freedia. Its lyrics center on releasing stress, leaving an unsatisfying situation, and protecting one’s sense of self. The song became Beyoncé’s eighth solo number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100.

It is sometimes confused with “Cuff It,” another Renaissance single that became a major hit later. “Alien Superstar” and “Virgo’s Groove” are album tracks, but neither was the project’s first officially released single.
