What was the first mountain range named in Noah’s Ark story?

The story behind the answer

Genesis says Noah’s Ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

Genesis 8:4 uses a plural expression, “mountains of Ararat,” rather than naming one specific summit. Ararat is associated with the ancient kingdom of Urartu, a region broadly connected with parts of modern eastern Turkey, Armenia, and Iran.

Mount Ararat, the prominent volcanic peak in modern Turkey, became the most famous proposed location for the ark. However, the biblical wording does not explicitly say that the vessel landed on the modern mountain called Mount Ararat. The distinction between a regional name and a single peak is an important common source of confusion.

The story says the ark rested after the waters receded. It does not provide archaeological evidence identifying a surviving ark, and reported searches have not established a verified discovery.
