What was the first LEGO Modular Building set, released in 2007?
Answer
Café Corner
Answer
Café Corner
Café Corner was the first LEGO Modular Building set, released in 2007.
Café Corner introduced the modular-building format that later became a major LEGO collector series. The model depicts a corner building with a café, hotel and apartment-style spaces. Its design includes removable building sections and a shared street layout, allowing additional modular structures to be placed alongside it.
The concept encouraged builders to create a growing urban display rather than a single isolated model. Subsequent releases expanded the streetscape with buildings such as Green Grocer, Grand Emporium and Parisian Restaurant. Different buildings share compatible dimensions and connection points, although their architectural styles vary.
Café Corner is sometimes confused with Green Grocer because both are early, highly sought-after modular sets. Green Grocer followed in 2008. Assembly Square, released much later in 2017, celebrated the collection’s tenth anniversary and is not the original modular building.
