After leaving Noah's Ark, Noah is explicitly said in Genesis to plant a vineyard.
Genesis 9:20 describes Noah as a man of the soil who planted a vineyard. The following verses say that he drank wine, became drunk, and lay uncovered inside his tent. This is the first post-flood cultivation specifically named in the Genesis narrative.
The olive leaf carried by the dove belongs to an earlier scene and is evidence that vegetation had begun to appear, but Genesis does not say that Noah planted an olive grove. Likewise, grain and figs are important crops elsewhere in the Bible, yet neither is identified here as Noah’s first cultivated plant.
The episode marks a transition from survival on the ark to settled life on land. It also introduces the story of Noah’s sons and the family relationships that shape the next chapters of Genesis. The answer is therefore a vineyard, not simply “grapes,” because the text names the cultivated place.
