Newcastle United and Liverpool finished 2–2 on the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
Newcastle scored first through Anthony Elanga and led at half-time. Liverpool levelled after the interval when Cody Gakpo found the net, but substitute Joe Willock quickly put Newcastle back in front.
The decisive moment came at the end of added time. Lewis Hall fouled Víctor Muñoz inside the penalty area, and Dominik Szoboszlai converted the resulting penalty for Liverpool.
The draw produced four total goals and shared points for both teams. It was not a Liverpool win, despite the visitors’ late recovery, and it was not a Newcastle victory, despite the home side leading twice.
