Practical Magic 2 earned $30 million during its opening weekend in the United States and Canada.
The debut placed the sequel at the top of the domestic box office and made it the first film to dethrone Spider-Man: Brand New Day after that film had led the chart for six weeks. The figure represents the film’s domestic opening weekend, not its eventual worldwide total.
The movie opened in 4,146 theaters and had already taken $12.5 million on its first day, including Thursday preview screenings. It also earned about $16 million internationally during the same opening period, producing a reported global opening of $46 million.
Box-office numbers are generally reported as gross ticket revenue before later adjustments. The domestic total can therefore differ from figures for production budget, distributor rental, profit, or the film’s cumulative worldwide gross.
