What was Noah’s wife called in the Book of Genesis?
Answer
Not named
Answer
Not named
Noah’s wife is not named in the Book of Genesis.
Genesis refers to Noah’s wife but does not provide her personal name. The Flood account says that Noah entered the Ark with his wife, his sons, and his sons’ wives. It therefore identifies her role in the household without supplying a name.
Later Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions have proposed names for Noah’s wife. One well-known Jewish tradition calls her Naamah, based on a woman mentioned in Genesis 4:22, but Genesis does not explicitly say that this Naamah was Noah’s wife. Other traditions use different names.
Because those later traditions vary, none is a single canonical answer from the Book of Genesis itself. “Not named” is the precise answer when the question is restricted to Genesis. This also differs from Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, whose names are explicitly recorded.
