The man who sent the dove from the Ark was Noah.
Genesis 8:8 identifies Noah as the person who sent out a dove to see whether the waters had receded from the ground. The action occurs after he had already released a raven and after the ark had come to rest on the mountains of Ararat.
Noah is the central human figure in the Genesis Flood narrative. He is introduced earlier as the son of Lamech and as the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. His wife, his sons, and their wives are also preserved in the ark according to Genesis.
The names of Noah’s sons are sometimes mistaken for alternative names for Noah himself, especially in simplified retellings. They are separate characters. The dove episode belongs specifically to Noah, who uses the bird’s return or absence to judge whether the land is becoming habitable.
