What was Meta’s first smart glasses product, launched in partnership with Ray-Ban in 2021?

The story behind the answer

Meta’s first smart-glasses product launched with Ray-Ban in 2021 was Ray-Ban Stories.

Ray-Ban Stories were introduced in September 2021 through a partnership between Facebook and EssilorLuxottica, the owner of the Ray-Ban brand. The glasses included small cameras, speakers, microphones and touch controls in frames designed to resemble ordinary Ray-Ban eyewear.

The glasses could capture photographs and short videos and share them through a connected smartphone. They were not a full augmented-reality headset: the lenses did not project digital images into the wearer’s view.

The product is often confused with Ray-Ban Meta, the second-generation line introduced in 2023 after Facebook had changed its corporate name to Meta Platforms. Ray-Ban Stories belongs to the earlier Facebook-branded generation.
