Meta Quest 2 was Meta’s first consumer virtual-reality headset sold under the Meta Quest name.
The headset launched in October 2020 as Oculus Quest 2, while Facebook still used the Oculus brand for its virtual-reality hardware. In 2021, following Facebook’s corporate rebrand, the product’s name was changed to Meta Quest 2.
Quest 2 is a standalone headset, meaning it can run compatible virtual-reality software without requiring a gaming computer or external tracking sensors. It can also connect to a computer for access to additional PC virtual-reality content.
It is often confused with the original Oculus Quest, released in 2019, or Meta Quest 3, released in 2023. Quest 2 was the second-generation consumer Quest headset and the first to carry the later Meta-branded name.
