Manchester City beat Bournemouth 2–1 in the 2026–27 Premier League opener.
The match was played at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday 23 August 2026. Bournemouth took the lead through Marcus Tavernier, but Manchester City scored twice late in the game to complete a comeback victory.
Marc Guéhi equalised with a header before Joško Gvardiol scored the winner in stoppage time. Rayan Cherki assisted both City goals after coming on from the bench, giving the new-look team a dramatic start to Enzo Maresca’s reign.
The result was Bournemouth’s first defeat after an 18-match unbeaten Premier League run. It was also the first time Bournemouth had led at the Etihad Stadium. The 2–1 scoreline should not be confused with the 2–2 draw between Newcastle United and Liverpool later that same Sunday.
