What was Fleetwood Mac also known as from 1967 to 1968?

The story behind the answer

From 1967 to 1968, Fleetwood Mac was also known as Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac.

The name reflected the band's origins and Peter Green's central role as its founder, lead guitarist and principal early songwriter. When the group made its live debut in August 1967, it was billed as “Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac featuring Jeremy Spencer,” before settling into the shorter Fleetwood Mac name.

Green had recently left John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. He formed the new group with drummer Mick Fleetwood and slide guitarist Jeremy Spencer, while bassist Bob Brunning initially filled in until John McVie joined. The early lineup recorded the self-titled debut album, released in February 1968 by Blue Horizon.

The phrase is sometimes confused with Buckingham Nicks, the duo whose later arrival transformed Fleetwood Mac's sound, or with John Mayall's Fleetwood Mac, which is not the canonical name. Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac belongs specifically to the band's early British-blues period, before the later pop-rock era associated with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.
