What was Destiny’s Child originally called when Beyoncé performed in the group?

The story behind the answer

Destiny’s Child was originally called Girl’s Tyme when Beyoncé performed in the group.

Girl’s Tyme formed in Houston in 1990 and included Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and Támar Davis at one stage of its early development. The group competed on the television talent show Star Search in 1993 but did not win.

After changes in membership and management, the group eventually signed with Columbia Records. Its name changed to Destiny’s Child in 1996, and the act released its self-titled debut album in 1998. The group later became one of the best-selling female groups in music history.

Girl’s Tyme is sometimes confused with the later professional lineup. It was an early name used during the group’s formative years, before the Columbia era.
