What was Destiny’s Child originally called when Beyoncé belonged to the group’s earliest lineup?

The story behind the answer

Destiny’s Child was originally called Girl’s Tyme when Beyoncé belonged to its earliest lineup.

Girl’s Tyme formed in Houston in 1990. The original group included Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and Támar Davis, although the lineup changed before the act became Destiny’s Child. The group competed on the television talent program Star Search in 1993.

After management and lineup changes, the group signed with Columbia Records and adopted the name Destiny’s Child. Its breakthrough came with the 1997 single “No, No, No,” followed by major albums including The Writing’s on the Wall and Survivor.

Girl’s Tyme is often overlooked because Beyoncé became internationally famous under the later name. It is also sometimes written with different punctuation or capitalization in informal references. The historically associated spelling is “Girl’s Tyme,” the name used for the early Houston group.
