What was Destiny’s Child originally called before becoming Beyoncé’s famous group?

The story behind the answer

Destiny’s Child was originally called Girl’s Tyme before becoming Beyoncé’s famous group.

Girl’s Tyme formed in Houston in 1990 and included Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and later other young performers during the group’s early lineup changes. The members developed their singing and choreography through local performances and talent competitions.

The group appeared on the television program Star Search in 1993, although it did not win. After management and record-label changes, the act eventually signed with Columbia Records and adopted the name Destiny’s Child. That name became associated with the trio’s major commercial success in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

A common mix-up is treating Destiny’s Child as the group’s original name from its first performances. Girl’s Tyme belongs to the act’s formative Houston period, while Destiny’s Child was the later name used for the group’s best-known recordings and lineups.
