What was Destiny’s Child originally called before adopting its famous name?
Answer
Girl’s Tyme
Answer
Girl’s Tyme
Destiny’s Child was originally called Girl’s Tyme. The group formed in Houston in the early 1990s, with Beyoncé Knowles and LaTavia Roberson among its early members. Girl’s Tyme competed on the television talent show Star Search in 1993, but the group lost its competition.
After lineup changes and further development, the group adopted the name Destiny’s Child. That name came from a passage in the biblical Book of Isaiah and became associated with the quartet and trio lineups that eventually included Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams.
Destiny’s Child signed with Columbia Records and became one of the best-selling female groups in music history. Their major hits included “Say My Name,” “Survivor,” and “Bootylicious.”
Girl’s Tyme is sometimes confused with an official early Destiny’s Child album or a separate group. It was the group’s earlier name, used before the members achieved mainstream success under the Destiny’s Child name.
